Original shoes and cloth bag on a woven surface

THE STORY BEHIND MARKUBi

Before the journey,
there were hands.

For Omran, who comes from Nyala in Darfur, marqub is a small part of home. A familiar object with a story that reaches beyond its shape.

A friend who lived and worked in Darfur brought this collection to Europe to share the region’s culture and craftsmanship. The remaining shoes are now with Omran in Oslo.

This next chapter begins with the objects themselves: their character, their condition, and the stories that can be told with care.

Based on Omran’s supplied account. Stock, maker attribution and dates are being documented.

FROM DARFUR TO THE WORLD

From a place.
Into a life.

Darfur is where this story begins. Oslo is where the next chapter is taking shape. The line between them is a connection, not a historical map.
